TEFA for Homeschool Families

How the $2,000 homeschool award works, what you can buy, and when a co-op or online school changes the amount.

How much do homeschoolers get?

Students listed as "homeschool/other" are eligible for $2,000 in TEFA funding for the school year. Homeschool award recipients do not have to report standardized test results to the state.

Getting the larger award as a homeschooler

Homeschool families may use a participating private school — including an accredited online school — to support parent-directed education. Confirmed enrollment can qualify a student for $10,474, or up to $30,000 with a qualifying IEP.

Students enrolled in a participating school must take an annual norm-referenced standardized test and report the results.

Switching between amounts

After the application deadline, awarded families can move from a higher amount down to the $2,000 homeschool option, but cannot move from $2,000 up to a higher amount. Choose your setting carefully when you apply.

How spending works

  • Funds become available starting July 1.
  • The program does not reimburse purchases — all transactions happen in the TEFA marketplace.
  • Schools and vendors join the marketplace on a rolling basis, so check whether your curriculum provider, tutor, or co-op participates.
